The First One.
Well here it is... My first official blog post - I'm a chatter so this should be very simple!
With the new blogging going hand-in-hand with my new (clean, shiny and beautiful!) website, it seems only right that I start by introducing myself, tell you a bit about my life and my work.
So at the risk of sounding like I'm on a Speed Dating Event: I'm Helen, I'm 25 and I live in Frodsham!
If I'm not photographing then my days are usually spent at my desk, with my favourite people, walking/snugging/sharing food with/chatting to/laughing at Bodge, trawling through Groupon (bad, bad habit!), baking and working behind my friend's bar.. (I get free gin - that's an absolute winner in my eyes!)
I have been plodding on with photography for a good 5 years now, the first few of those years however didn't have a huge amount of direction or drive. I loved what I did but was still trying to find my feet - work out what I wanted, what my goals were and what my unique style was.
Life was happening... There were some great ups, some very bad downs and it wasn't until late 2014/early 2015 that I gave my head the wobble it needed and decided to dive straight in and do exactly what I wanted. I booked myself into a photography workshop - The Secret Retreat - where I met a group of incredible female photographers, all with their own gripes and problems with their work as well as strong points (my God... They have some insane talent, those girls!) We all went to Italy and spent between 5 days there; shooting, learning, chatting, inspiring, eating, drinking and most of all laughing!
Up until then I'd not really met any female photographers, even less so ones that were my own age that "got me" so it is amazing to me that I now have a group of them that I am lucky enough to call my friends. It means that there is now an amazing network of support and advice for us all which, when working for yourself, is so important!
Of course whilst being in Italy I also got to see a little bit more of the world: the smells, the feels, the sounds, the tastes (I'm talking about you, pasta!) and the gorgeous sights just ooze happy welcome. It's given me itchy feet for sure and I can't wait to get more stamps in my passport of places I've never been to!
I decided to re-brand when I returned from the workshop. Feeling completely inspired, I developed a new editing style, changed my business name, got a beaut new logo and last on my long list was this website!
I finally have a direction and I am so excited for this journey! Eeeeek!
And with that, I'm off to make myself another brew!
Speak soon!
Helen xo
