Peckforton Castle - My Best Friend's Wedding
This day can go down as one of the biggest days of my life as beautiful Best Friend Kelsey became Mrs Jones.
I'll never forget the day Liam told me that he was going to propose to her. We were at Chester Races for her birthday and I was asking about what her birthday present was.... "A Michael Kors purse, Topshop shoes, some make-up, a Mulberry purse and something else I'm not telling you.."
Now initially I was just stumped about the fact she wasn't just getting a Michael Kors purse but a Mulberry one aswell. Then it occurred to me that they definitely weren't the real, big present if they weren't the secret one so I persisted until he cracked and shyly he told me that it was an engagement ring. I cried instantly and he asked if I thought it was okay and if she'd be happy... I cried more... He was about to make my best friend the happiest she had ever been in her entire life and she had no idea!
At this point, with mascara everywhere and Liam and myself hugging, Kels returned from her most recent trip to the Pimms tent (of which there were many) and asked what on earth was wrong, quick-thinking Liam's first and only response was "she's just really upset coz she's realised she's the only single one here!" (I hadn't actually realised until that point so cheers pal!)
It seems like I blinked and suddenly it was all upon us.. She was one of the most relaxed Bride's I have ever known - probably down to the fact she's been completely sidetracked with the best little squidgey in the world, Imogen, who turned 6 months old last week. We spent the night before the wedding at Peckforton Castle, it was a completely sleepless night but looking at Kels you wouldn't have known... She looked phenomenal.. Absolutely incredible!
Our breakfast arrived to our suite at 7.30 and our hairdresser arrived at 8. it was quite a calm morning really, the first couple of hours spent whispering so as not to wake Immy who had taken up residence in the four-poster bed! It wasn't long before make-up artists were there, then we were getting dressed, then prosecco was being poured and Kels was getting into her dress. Myyy God, there were tears!!!
The venue was huge, grand and gorgeous, decorated with white roses and candles; a cross between Hogwarts and the Royal Wedding! We watched from our window as guests arrived and nerves rose, all of us were jittering with excitement and butterflies.
The rest of the day flew by in a whirl of wedding fuzziness; there were birds of prey, mini fish and chips, outbursts of 'Brown Eyed Girl', dancing, laughing and crying, a lot of it worrying about whether the cake I'd made would stand the test of time (it did - phew... Thank you Peckforton kitchen staff!) but most importantly, every single time I looked at my girl she had her dimples out endlessly, a beaming smile on her face, and a sparkle in her eye. She's done it, she's gone and found her Happily Ever After and I could not be more over-the-moon for her, Liam and their perfect little girl.
I would give absolutely anything to go back to this day.
Thank you for letting me be a bridesmaid... Mr and Mrs Jones, I love you xxxx
There would be more but... Well... Gin won.
